drop down lists vanish

Ubuntu 10.10 with a fire fox 4.0 install today.

When Firefox is running for a while the drop down boxes (file, edit, history etc.) do not work as they should. When one is clicked and I try to slide down to pick something the whole thing suddenly vanishes! This works just fine when the program is opened but over time the function is not there.

Any ideas?

   sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable
   sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

If you rename ~/.mozilla then rerun the browser, is it ok?

sure, run:

mv ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla_old

Then rerun it. Is it nicer?

I renamed mozilla in my home folder to mozillaold and then opened Firefox 4 again.

It did not solve the problem. I just noticed that when typing this reply the spell checker marked a word to check. When I tried to choose the correct spelling the same thing happened. The drop down box vanished.

ok then delete the current ~/.mozilla folder and move the original back in (this is a rollout path and very professional)
