get list of favorites from corrupt hard drive

Asked by Doug

My Ubuntu hard drive became corrupted and will not boot. I bought a new master hard drive, installed Ubuntu, and now find I can read the old hard drive as a slave, even though it still won't boot. I want to import my favorites from the Firefox installation on the old hard drive.

Because it won't boot, I can't start up Firefox on the old hard drive in order to export my bookmarks. I found the "Import From File" option under Bookmarks Manager, but I don't know where to find a file on the old hard drive to import from.

Any help?

Easier solution:
open your home directory on this harddrive, then the hidden .mozilla directory, then firefox, then your profile.
Example on mine:

/home/risbac/.mozilla/firefox/xkksk59n.default/

The bookmarks are in the bookmarks.html document

Just copy/paste it in the similar directory (the profile ID may differ) with firefox turned off.

Another solution, just copy paste the entire .mozilla rep. Make sure firefox is turned off. This way you get everything back: bookmarks, history, etc...

I hope it will answer your question.
