Using Internet based Windows Applications

Asked by Bob Foerster

I use both the United States Postal Services and FedEx websites to generate mailing labels to customers of my business. These are both Windows or Mac based. Is there some way to use them in Ubuntu Linux?

Sure. Web pages obey ISO defined standards, so the pages will look the same on any OS using a browser obeying the standards which Linux does

Mahalo for your response. However, when I log in to the FedEx account from Firefox running in Ubuntu I get the following response when I try to generate a mailing label.

IMPORTANT UPDATE
We have updated our list of supported web browsers. Although you can still use fedex.com if your browser is not supported, we recommend using one of the browsers below for an optimal experience.

   Microsoft Windows
Windows 7
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Vista
Google Chrome 4.0+
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0+, 7.0+, 8.0+
Mozilla Firefox 3.0+
Opera 9.0+, 10.0+
Safari 4.0+

Apple Mac OS
Mac 10.4+
Mozilla Firefox 3.0+
Opera 9.0+, 10.0+
Safari 4.0+

There is no mention of Linux or Ubuntu. And the label never gets printed.

Have you contacted fedex?
You can run (crappy) firefox in wine to satisfy the site. Flash runs fairly poorly but if the site is basic it will be fine. Is there an addon for your native browser to spoof the detected OS?

Can you help with this problem?
