I have Ubuntu 10.10. And it was running great till I turned it off now I have no launch pad

Can you give us more details? How exactly did you lost your launchpad? Are you referring to launchpad.net or something else?

The launcher where FireFox is to click to open on top of my desktop.
Did not do any thing. It did update itself through update manager.
Every thing else works. I'm using it to write this. I have to hit a
certain key on my keypad and Ubuntu help opens up and I
click on free help from launchpad and that opens FF.

Can you open Firefox from Applications --> Internet ? If not try to run the "firefox" command inside Terminal and report any errors here.
