firefox can't find adobe reader plugin

Asked by Steve Ward

I am new to all of this only running ubuntu for less than 1 week.
Already finding good help on forums but struggling a bit.
I managed to install adobe reader 9.4 in 10.10 but the plugin in firefox will not open therefore meaning my wife can't open her bookmarked pages which are pdfs.

I get the following message:
Could not launch Adobe Reader 9.4. Please make sure it exists in PATH variable in the environment. If the problem persists, please reinstall the application.

I assume that when I installed it and I was asked for a path I gave it the wrong path. It didn't tell me where to put it when I had to install it using the terminal.

How do I correct the path?

Thanks very much for your help

Steve

Do you have adobe reader installed? If so, how did you install it?

Yes I have the reader installed. I downloaded a .rpm file from the Adobe website and following some instructions on the forums that I found I used the terminal to convert it and install it. I tried the software centre but this didn't actually do anything.

The problem I had was that when I was going through the process it asked me to input a path and I thought I chose the right place (ie where all my other programs seem to be installed)

I hope this helps

Thanks

Steve

RPM is NOT for Ubuntu. Ubuntu uses DEB files. You can add the medibuntu repo and install adobe reader and you will get 9.4.

Why are you using RPMs?

Thanks for this. Because trying to install from software centre didn't work I went to Adobe website and just downloaded what they suggested.

I will now look for DEB files. Is the medibuntu repo the thing on Liberian Geek? I think I can follow this.

Thanks for all your help.
