Ubuntu 10.10... Flash shows to be ver. 10.1.999... not working except for youtube.

Asked by Rent_A_Pig

Ok starting yesterday. no videos play in Hulu, or Liveleak. No games play anywhere on the web, no apps like frontierville on FaceBook either. I uninstalled flash and reinstalled the latest Ver. (10.1.4xx) yet it is still not working and is showing to still be Ver. 10.1.999.

any thought?

Hello,
How did you install the flash plugin? Are you using flashplugin-installer provided by Ubuntu?
If you open up firefox and issue about:plugins and click on the '+' next to details, where does it show the flash plugin to reside on your file system?

I used the Adobe site first and then the software center, and finally Synaptic package manager.

Well I am looking and the only flash I see is shockwave and that is listed under "I-tunes Application Detector"

Shockwave flash shows:
...........................................................................................................................................................................................
Shockwave Flash

    File: /usr/lib/gnash/libgnashplugin.so
    Version:
    Shockwave Flash 10.1 r999.

You are using gnash, the free open source alternative.

I recommend using Adobe's flash plugin.

Install flashplugin-nonfree using synaptic or from a terminal type 'sudo aptitude install flashplugin-nonfree'
