BetterPrivacy addon for Firefox what is an LSO?

Asked by Stacie Dasher

When I'm trying to search for updates to my add-ons, it says that one of them, Better Privacy, is going to delete some LSOs. I'm not sure what LSOs are, so I thought I should make sure this is a good idea before I let something important get deleted. I just cancel that and let the update checking proceed. What are LSOs and is there a way to see them?

you are referring to a plugin https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6623/

Flash plugins that run on this site will also store LSOs (local shared objects) on your system, intended as a demonstration of modern tracking technology (see also BetterPrivacy addon). However no personal data is stored, just the curent time. The user gets further information with the text that is displayed by those Flash animations.

LSOs are stored in
~/.macromedia/Flash_Player/macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/sys
macromedia/Flash_Player/#SharedObjects

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/articles/lso/

There're some addons which remove them after a session, but they can also be deleted manually by user without an addon.
If you remove it, the next time you go to a page enabling js and watching a flash app the page will create again an LSO.
Adobe also has a settings manager where you can disable that anything will be saved, but you'll loose e.g. sound settings which maybe you've made when using the page.
