Usually Intel wireless controllers work fine in Ubuntu. Do you see the wireless networks? Or just nothing at all?

Just to make sure: if you right click on the network icon, is there an option to enable wireless network? And is it activated?

Looks like a driver problem maybe...
Can you open a terminal and type this:

i have no switch ...everything is internal........my wireless works in Windows7, nut not in ubuntu

thanks for all your help ....i dont know what i did but my wireless works now

the only thing i did was reinstall windows xp......reinstalled all the correct network drives, ethernet, wireless, bluetooth, etc.............reinstalled Ubuntu OS (clean install)...and everything seems to be working fine now....thank you everybody for all your help.....
