URL Incompatible with Ubuntu FireFox?

Asked by Richard Pabst

Installed Ubuntu 10.04, and cannot open URL "https://insite.fds.com" with Firefox- message states that browser in incompatible. Site opens fine from Firefox or IE within Windows. Same thing when attempted from Ubuntu installed on a second computer. Any suggestions? This is an employee info web site important to my bride <grin>!

Richard,

I can confirm it gives that error for me as well on multiple browsers. Looking at the site though:

"In-site Internet Requirements

Please check that you have satisfied these requirements.
Microsoft Windows - Internet Explorer version 5.5 or better.
Mac OS X 10.2.x and later - Firefox version 1.5 or better.
Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5.0 or better.
Check your security settings. Select Tools->Internet Options and click the Security tab. Make sure that JavaScript, cookies, and style sheets are all enabled.
This site looks best at 800 x 600 resolution or better."

So to me that would imply it does not support linux clients. I do not know what Insite do but I would suggest you email them and ask them why would they not support Firefox under Linux/Ubuntu when they support it for other platforms.

There might be a way of spoofing this that I am not aware of to make it work or you might want to try WINE or a VirtualBox install to see if this will make it work.

Install the firefox addon "User agent switcher"

The User Agent Switcher extension adds a menu and a toolbar button to switch the user agent of the browser.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/59/

Restart Firefox

Right click on and empty place of the Firefox toolbar and drag the user agent switcher icon to your firefox toolbar and then to access to the https://insite.fds.com/ to change your user agent switcher to Internet explorer...
