Can not access Internet

Asked by Xiao Chen Duan

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 in VM, but when I used the built-in Firefox to access Internet, I could not access any web site. How to fix this issue?

Thanks a lot?

Hi
There is a problem with Firefox and Ubuntu 10.04 not Firefox or even Ubuntu themselves but the your internet provider. if they do not use ipv6 and still use ipv4 10.04 is not handling it to well yet, all very technical. but there are working on it.

Ok to fix the problem. open Firefox and in the URL type about:config then look for network.dns.disableIPv6 change it to true it will say false, double clicking on that line will change it. then it should work.

Hi Neil,

first, I'm sorry for replying you so late.
And I did the thing you told to me, but I still can not access Internet.

My Ubuntu 10.04 is installed in Virtualbox, I opened system>Administration>Network Tools, and found the Network device(which in Devices tab) is Loopback Interface, I think the Network device should be Ethernet Interface. Is it the reason? How to fix it?

Thanks a lot!

Hi
Could be, but mine is not.. it is saying "loopback interface" but on the desktop next to the clock you will find an icon for internet connections. ( I think it looks like a computer sorry I can't remember what it looks like to start with as I have wireless) Ethernet or and wireless. click on it and it should show the name of your modem, (for me it is dlink). click on it and it should connect.
hope this helps
