More compact theme for Firefox on UNO

Asked by W. J. van der Laan

Binary package hint: firefox

The default theme of Firefox on Ubuntu Netbook edition starts with a (relatively) huge menubar, bookmarks bar, tabs bar, and status bar. On my Netbook, this takes up a lot of 'valuable vertical space' while browsing. Also, a lot of this is empty space and 'niceness' in the form of big icons.

Have you considered setting the theme to something like "Classic Compact Theme" ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3699/ ) by default?

Since this is not really a bug, I'm converting this to a question.

I do consider it a bug. The developers of Ubuntu put so much work into reducing the vertical footprint of x11/gnome, but seem to have overlooked the most used application of netbooks.

Install ths:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1455/

This puts all the File, edit, view crap into one lump, you can then install liquifox:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2530/

This will make the buttons smaller by a LOT, you can then click view -> toolbars -> customise

drag the address bar next to the Menu item and move all the other stuff up too, get rid of any buttons you dont use (or can use shortcut keys for). You can then click view -> toolbars and uncheck navigation toolbar

You now have a pretty minimal firefox.

Theres also HideCaption to remove the title bar:

Thanks for the pointers!

But my suggestion is to do this by default on Netbook Ubuntu, as this will affect all users with a small screen (which usually comes with netbooks...).

submit it on:

I used to do this when I used firefox in the past. I now use arora and chromium. Chromium has a nice minimal feel by default.

Can you help with this problem?
