installing a new font

Asked by pia pakkala

Installing a new font

My job requires that I log onto our company website and download reports about my daily performance. As a security measure, however, the reports only come out in a particular font. After changing from Windows2000 to Ubuntu, I saved the font but it is just among my personal files, how to get it where the report would 'catch' it - among the system data?

lots of thanks to anybody who may be able to help with this, Pia

Try copying the fonts to the folder: /var/lib/defoma/gs.d/dirs/fonts

I'm sorry, wrong folder. The correct one is: /usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts

And if that doesn't work...

1. Go to the 'System' menu. Pick 'Preferences', then 'Font'.
2. Click the 'Details...' button in the window that appears.
3. Click 'Go to font folder'.

4. At this point a window will pop up that shows all the installed fonts. Drag TTF files into this window to install them. They may not appear right away, but they do get installed.

5. Log out, then log back in. Your fonts should be available.
