OK.. Copy this text into your /etc/apt/sources.list by copying the command gksudo /gedit/etc/apt/sources.list in a terminal as it is here and upon executing this command you will be asked for your password and when the text file comes up CLEAR all the contents of the file first.. (Terminal Can be found in Applications => Accessories => Terminal)..

See firstly.. Go to system => About Ubuntu this gives you information about the version of ubuntu you are using... Secondly when you execute gksudo /gedit/etc/apt/sources.list command In a terminal the /etc/apt/sources.list will come up containg some text in it.. Just delete all the text there and copy and paste the text starting from
## See http://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes for how to upgrade to
..................................... till
#deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu feisty-security multiverse
completely as it is and then you will be asked to save the file.. Save the file and then...
open synaptic package manager (System => Administration => Synaptic package manager) and click on reload... you should be done...

Hope its simple and it helps,
Bhavani Shankar.
