dos nbuntu run best on its own or with windows ?carnt get sb4100 to run on usb ?so will try lan can you run norton on it thank you

It's slightly easier to set it up without windows being installed, but you must back up your files first. Once you're running Ubuntu it makes no difference whether or not windows is co-installed unless you don't give ubuntu enough disk space.

I'm not sure what a SB4100 is, could you provide more information?

You can't run Norton on Ubuntu (or if you can it won't be useful). If you use norton firewall, then Ubuntu has one but doesn't need one unless you install servers, you can install firestarter to configure the firewall.
