how to open "netbeans-6.8-ml-linux.sh"

Asked by Glen Devendorf on 2009-12-24

Hi, I am new to Linux and Ubuntu Karmic Koala. I have downloaded "netbeans-6.8-ml-linux. sh" but have been unable to install it. Gedit says it doesn't recognize the character coding and refers to a possible binary file. Can anyone tell me how to open and install this program? Thank you.

Copy the netbeans-6.8-ml-linux. sh file to your Home folder
Open a terminal (Applications>Accessories>Terminal
Type sudo sh ./netbeans-6
And press the Tab key. The file name should auto copmlete. Hit enter. You will be asked for your password but you will not be able to see the charecters (not even stars) when you type in your password.

Hope that helps

Yah, sudo sh filename.sh should do the job, after that the netbeans
installer will configure and then take you to a nwe windows, there you
can customize the parts of netbeans you want to install

Alright go to the terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and
then let's say the location of your file was at your desktop, you would
do something like this:

cd Desktop/
sudo sh netbeans-6.8-ml-linux. sh

That will open up netbeans installer and then install. If the file is in
home then skip the first step
