my system menu now only displays help,Why?

I changed my display settings to hi resolution,now when i select the system menu it only dislpays, help,and help with ubunto, and not any preferences setting options, yet there is if I sign in as a guest.I would appreciate ant help thanks.

I don't know why they disappeared, but you may be able to get them back with the menu editor:

- Right-click the Applications menu, and select "Edit Menus"
- In the menu editor that opens, scroll down the list in the left, and select "System"
- In the list beside that one, make sure the checkboxes are checked beside "Preferences" and "Administration"
- Close the menu editor, and hopefully everything will be back to normal

boxes were checked,still the same ,but it's good to know how to get to that option, thanks,DB

right clicked main screen went to change backround, this gave me the menues i needed to change back to original display.Problem solved.
