Can firefox 3.5 be installed in ubuntu 8.04.3?

Asked by ernie

Because of the MTRR issue (among others) that afflict -intel users on Jaunty, I recently decided to switch to 8.04.3. Unfortunately, Firefox 3.5 is not available for installation in 8.04.3 through Synaptic Package Manager.

Is Firefox 3.5 compatible with Ubuntu 8.04.3? If so, is there a relatively easy way to install it? Thanks.

Is this my only option? I tried this before my posting, and FF 3.5 wouldn't install. Got some error message about broken dependencies (I think). Had to retrace my steps in order to get FF 3.0 working again -- am afraid to try again.

If you are willing to consider alternatives, you could try Swiftfox, "an optimized build of Mozilla Firefox" for specific processors (AMD / Intel). At http://getswiftfox.com/download.htm you can get the .deb or instalation script for your processor.
