Very low volume for Flash videos on Firefox 3.5

Asked by Nyarlathotep

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

I have recently changed my motherboard to a Asus P5VDC-MX which has a VIA 8251 audio chip.

Since the motherboard change I'm having a few problems with Ubuntu 9.04 and having extremely low volume on with Flash videos is one of them. I'm using Adobe Flashplayer 10.

I got Pulse working correctly and the audio is ok for any other application.

I'm reporting the bug on Firefox 3.5 but it also was on Firefox 3.0.11.

By rolling back to kernel 2.6.24-24-generic the problem disappeared.

Is there any specific relevant difference at driver/module between these two kernel versions?

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Have you tried checking the audio settings to make sure that all of the controls are on high?

Hi Micah,

yes, the audio is perfectly ok with any other application, music and movie player for example.
The problem is only related to Flash.

Another detail which just jumped in my mind is that initially I had some problem with Pulse just because, as I mentioned in the error description, I changed the motherboard and then also the audio card which is integrated.

With Pulse not working I had problems with websites using Moonlight (Silverlight), like no audio and ultimately Firefox crashing.

Once I fixed the Pulse problem and got Moonlight working fine I was really optimistic but unfortunately Flash wasn't working yet, just because Flash Player doesn't use Pulse at all I guess?

But however, with kernel 2.6.24-24-generic the problem just disappeared.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs.
