FORGOTTEN PASSWORD

I hyave been able tosign on to my comp. by chance. I purchased this comp. used. the preveous owner gave me the password but I can't remeber it. thought for sure it was 123456, but when i go to change or eliminate the need to sign in i can't get this passsword to work. Is there any default passwords I can Usee. Don't require a sign password for thid comp.

Oh and for the love of everyone else on the internet, please don't use passwords like 123456. THis makes remote hijacking of your computer (if for example you install SSH), trivial if you are not running on a NAT (or even if you are and you have used the same "password" for your router).

True. But as David described pc was purchased and obviously there was an os on there already. I do the same when setting up a machine and bring it to someone, the only difference, when new user starts to use it I'd stay beside and request to change the pw *now*.

It's actually not about you alone it goes beyond that.
In simple terms, if the pc is connected to internet any abusive access to your pc may possibly harm the rest of the internet community. Under certain circumstances there're laws which hold user accountable for not securing their system.
