For web cam work, first you must install a tool named "CHEESE"

This tool to take pictures and videos from your webcam

Cheese is a cheesy program to take pictures and videos from your web
cam. It also provides some graphical effects in order to please the
user's play instinct.

HOW TO INSTALL:
step1: open your Synaptic Package Manager
step2: search the "CHEESE" at the "QuicK search" tool bar
step3:mark for installation and install..

now, your web cam ready to take photos&videos... enjoy :)

HI :)

First sort all your normal multimedia in one easy session, just work through the medibuntu worksheet
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

Then install "cheese". Generally i prefer using Synaptic Package Manager when i want to have a look around at what is available. Go up to the top taskbar and click on

System - Administration - Synaptic

However, if you just want to install 1 package it is sometimes faster to go to a command-line and enter

sudo apt-get install cheese

To get the web-cam working i would use Synaptic and then also search around for other things, such as trying a search for the model & make of the web-cam just to see if there are special packages built just for your cam
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
