Firefox can't find server....

Asked by ssted

Hello,

This is probably been asked so many times but i can't figure out the problem i'm having. First, i installed a copy of Ubuntu 9,10 - Karmic Koala on a clean Hard Drive, no other system is on it, just Ubuntu. Everything worked out pretty good but when i installed the same Ubuntu 9,10- Karmic Koala on Windows XP, Firefox won't connect online.

I've copied the same network settings that's on my desktop computer to the laptop that has Windows XP service pack 3, same everything except it won't connect. It say's ' Problem loading page...', so i'm puzzled. But when i boot from Windows XP, i connect on the web just fine so that's what has puzzled me...:(

I will continue to try and work on the network settings maybe i misspelled something while i wait for a suggestion/s from any of you guys. I will also look for similar problems on this site and I will try the suggestions that worked for others.

Thank You,

Ed

Try running:

gksudo gedit /etc/resolv.conf

add these 2 lines:

nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4

Save the new file, close gedit then try the web again.

Incidentally, what XP does or doesn't do is moot.
