Hi :)

3 things that might well improve things generally

1st, Are you using ubuntu 64bit edition? The 32bit version is usually better for most people and is better on my 64bit machine.

2nd, Have you run through the Medibuntu worksheet yet?
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
This needs to be done afterr any install of Ubuntu

3rd, Have you considered a dual-boot with Ubuntu alongside Windows? It takes time to learn new ways of doing things and people have usually grown up with Windows spending years learning all they do. Ubuntu takes quite a shift sideways into a very different approach. Once you have got used to it then you will find it is a lot better but it takes a few weeks or months to learn as much as you knew in Windows. A proper dual-boot allows you to keep going back into Windows for those odd things that you do better in Windows at the moment

However, installing Windows and getting that working is a monumental challenge. It normally arrives pre-installed, tweaked, updated&rebooted many times and then all the software added such as Office to make the machine usable.

Usually Ubuntu doesn't create anything like this amount of trouble, particularly about internet connections! So i was wondering what the specs are for your machine. Please let us know the cpu-speed, ram-size and amount of hard-drive space that Ubuntu has been given. Also do you find the internet connection "just works" straight from a LiveCd session or would that take a lot of sorting out too?

The LiveCd usually picks-up on all sorts of weird and wonderful settings. It would be interesting to know if it works for you.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
