PDF files will not load.

Asked by jakewilliammartin@comcast.net

I'm using Linux #! crunch bang for the first time. When I try to load a .pdf file from the internet (clicking the link on the page for the .pdf) it wants me to save it or open it with a program which brings up a list of my folders. I don't know why but it sometimes loads automatically using Evince and other times it downloads it and then fails to load it because "the associated helper application does not exist". I have tried to change my preferences for .pdf files in the preferences section of firefox, but there is not options other than to save it or ask (no Evince or other program to run them available as an option). I know this question is hard to read but if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Keep questions simple as I dont know how to do much. Thank you to whoever reads this.

I should have also said that all I want to happen is when I click a .pdf link online is for it to open automatically.

*This is the error message that comes up*

/tmp/menu-porthole-9.pdf could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.

Right click on a .pdf and select Properties > Open With and make sure Document Viewer is selected. You may need to reload Firefox for it to take place.

When I right click on a .pdf and select properties it brings up another window that says:

ELEMENT PROPERTIES

Link properties
address: (shows website address)
will open in: same window

it does not show anything for document viewer.

In the mean time I added-on google document viewer from mozilla which lets me right click on the link to the pdf and open with that program. but I'd still like to just be able to click the link like normal.
