I cannot clear private data

Tools>Clear Private Data does not respond or open. All updates are downloaded.

Yes, Firefox 3.0
This happened before but when I downloaded updates The functin then worked.

It's not clear for me what you're writing about.

Private data, in Firefox, is cookies, navigation history, passwords and such kind of things.

Updates, I guess, are instaled plugins/extensions updates? You need to configure these to not search for updates or install it. Every plugin has it's own configuration options, though. You'll need to browse them to set your own preferences.

But remember that keeping your plugins (and any software) updated is not a bad idea :)

When I click on Clear Private Data the dialogue box does not open.Thats pretty clear. When I clicked on that function before, it would open and I could check or uncheck which data to clear.

I'm sorry, my mistake.

In Firefox 3.5 it works OK, so you can try upgrading the browser. Also, it offers a private browsing feature which didn't exist in previous versions.
