Firefox 3.0.15 issues with facebook

Asked by ajheart

I use xubuntu 8.10 and xubuntu 9.10. I've recently developed problems with firefox 3.0.15 and facebook... the problem is that basically no input boxes or buttons work, and sometimes they don't even show up. I thought that my scriptblock may be the problem, yet it still didn't work with scripts globally allowed. I never had these issues, and one day they popped up after a firefox update. Please let me know if anyone else has come across this problem and how to fix it.

thanks much.

Does this happen with any other site other then facebook? I know that facebook in general can sometimes be a little buggy.
I did a quick search on Firefox 3.0.15 and facebook and it seems like that version is indeed having intermittent problems with that version.

Although your always able to open up a bug on this issue I am not entirely sure that it's something that can be fixed within the Ubuntu bug tracker, and it more then likely has already been reported (after having so many hits about it from google).

You do have some simple options available to you like clearing the cache. You also can upgrade to Firefox 3.5.4

I know it's not the answer you might have been looking for but I hope I have been of some help.

I do not use Facebook but I have had great success with Google Chrome for Linux as an alternative to FireFox.

Go to: http://dev.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel

Go to the Linux link http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en/eula_dev.html?dl=unstable_i386_deb

It is a Testing version of the browser but I am using it now as my default browser. It is quick, stable, and I have had no web page rendering issues. you will need Java 6 plug-in as a minimum if you use Java. Themes for the Chrome browser are cool.

Here is a link to get flash working and contains an overall review of the browser

Chrome works well for me, give it a try.

In response to Richard Seguin:

As I have discovered thus far, this is only a problem with Facebook. It's not a huge deal as I don't use facebook constantly, so I've just been using it less... but I was just hoping someone had come upon a similar problem.

I will try to see how Firefox 3.5.4 goes.

As for Qoquaq's response:

Thanks for the info on Chrome. I've heard good things about this browser and i will check it out.

Thanks guys :)
