how to install flash on ubuntu 9.04

Asked by Azfar

I installed ubuntu 6.06 a few days back and was having trouble with installing flash on thr firefox. i posted a question and was asked to get a latest version of ubuntu. so i downloaded 9.04.does it help?. a big NO ! The ony improvement that i see is that the sytem does recgonize the file and the Gdebi something installer prompts to install the package. so click install package. and then nothing.

It "is" possible to install flash on Linux..right ?? or not ? Kudos to those who have succeeded in doing that.

Ok now you are on a supported release...

Please open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo aptitude install adobe-flashplugin

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Hope this helps

Make sure you don't have any other flash as well:

sudo apt-get remove swfdec-mozilla
sudo apt-get remove mozilla-plugin-gnash
sudo apt-get remove adobe-flashplugin
sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

Did you do what Marco said? You shouldn't have any Enter button at all because it's in a terminal.

If you enter the password wrong in the terminal it should ask you to try again. If you enter it right it should process the installation. You can do that to find out if your password is actually blank or not.

I'd go with what wojox says, you want only ONE plugin or yu will not get any flash

@Ryan:you do press enter after entering each command in terminal ..no ? after each command it asked for password. since i had none i simpy pressed enter and moved on to the next command line. but after the 3 commands marcobra asked to use nothing happened. no system message/prompt.

The good news us the problem is solved. Phew. i generated a password first and then went to a website where it prompted for a flash plugin at the browser top. i clicked install entered the all important password and the rest was done automatically. Thank you all for your help :).

To Wojox:

Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!!!!!!

I installed Ubuntu yesterday and spent most of my time trying to get flash working. Thanks to you it now works!

I only have one question: Why the hell have I been using Microshaft for so long? Ubuntu recalls the good old days and makes me think, not gnash my teeth in frustration like Windows did. Hopefully things will go well from here on out, but I will most certainly come back to this wonderful place should any other problems arise.

Thanks again!!
