Incorrect Plugin path after update

Asked by CerealGirl

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

In Ubuntu 8.10, I have just updated to firefox 3.5.3 (I am running 32 bit browser on a 64 but platform) The update broke my plugins. About:config shows the plugin path to be /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so instead of /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins as expected.
Firefox has been troublesome since the upgrade to 3.1, but this is certainly an unexpected twist! Please let me know how I can reset the profile path, and if you have any other suggestions, or need any more information.
Thanks,
-A

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. We currently do not support Firefox 3.5 in Intrepid. We also don't ship a 32 bit browser for amd64. I am therefore converting this to a Question in our Answer Tracker.
Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

I would suggest creating a new profile in Firefox. We don't recommend mixing profiles from the Ubuntu version and the Mozilla version.

You can start Firefox's profile manager by adding -ProfileManager to the command you use to launch Firefox.

OK, thanks for your time Michael. It's a rather unusual thing to encounter on update, so I thought I'd report it. Sorry to take up your time! (I think I'll just reinstall the Ubuntu version and start from scratch again, now that my work arounds are requiring work arounds of their own!) Again, thanks for your time.

It's always good to report issues to make sure that we have heard about them. It just happens in this case, that you probably have non-ubuntu software installed. Jaunty (9.04) has a Firefox 3.5 package in it in case you want to upgrade. Karmic has Firefox 3.5 as the default browser.

Can you help with this problem?
