can't update to firefox 3.5

Asked by stargazer

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I am using Jaunty Ubuntu 9.04 and have Firefox 3.014 and trying to go to Firefox 3.5. I did sudo apt-get install Firefox-3.5 and it seemed that the install went through and it then told me that I had a lot of dependencies to remove using sudo apt-get autoremove. I did that and I am still using Firefox 3.0. How do I update?

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. You can start Firefox 3.5 in Jaunty by selecting Shiretoko Web Browser in the menu or typing firefox-3.5 on the console. Firefox 3.5 on Jaunty is installed alongside 3.0. There is no per se 'upgrade', but 3.5 will import your 3.0 profile.

Hi,

Micah is right. You can install Shiretoko from the Add/Remove application and also, you may consider making Shiretoko as your default browser (EDIT>PREFERENCES>ADVANCED>GENERAL) so that you are going to use only that and not the older 3.0.

You may want to refer to this thread for more information:

Hope it helps.
