Administration difficulties

I am trying to upgrade my v.3 of Firefox but npow I am told that I need\
Administration rights. How do I obtain these?

if you want firefox-3.5.2 you need to run:

sudo apt-get install firefox-3.5

firefox-3.5 is a seperate app in Jaunty but is a true upgrade in Karmic. If you need admin rights for command line apps like:

apt-get, cp, mv, ln

Then use sudo

If you need admin rights for graphical apps like:

nautilus, thunar, dolphin

Then you must use gksudo in gnome or kdesudo in kde.

If you have newly installed Ubuntu then you might want to run through all the steps in this guide to get all your multimedia sorted out in one go and make sure you haven't missed anything

i tend to use non-free components at first but hope to move away from proprietary stuff and go with all OpenSource stuff to really free myself one day.
