some website not opening in ubuntu 9.04

Some websites wont open in Ubuntu. examples are Google.com 160by2.com etc

I am using Firefox 3. Performed an update but all in vain.

My previous Ubuntu installation (Hardy Heron) worked fine.

I am having a windows system too behind the same router and it doesn't exhibit such a problem.

Any kind of help is appreciated.

It says "connecting to google.com" and gets stuck.
Then after a long time it says
"Failed to Connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com".

Even Pidgin cant connect to gmail.com
I can still ping google.com with 100% success and round trip time around 400ms

Same thing happens with many other websites.

Any help again is appreciated.
