It's reccomend to keep the "normal" firefox form the metapackage, because the meta-package is an dependecy for a few packages.
When you installed the package firefox-3.5, you can start the new fox via 'firefox-3.5' e.g. from a terminal.

I still have two firefox. Right now it's firefox 3.5.But after i close it out it will be firefox 3.0.12. I thought when you download something it takes over for the other. Like an upgrade. But instead i have two. I only need one firefox. Could i use my synaptic package manager to eliminate one. On a scale of 1to 10 in computer knowledge, I'm a 4. So help me out.

Hello larry w.,
firefox 3.5 is not a default browser in ubuntu so far. You can find it in add/remove applications as "Shiretoko Web Browser". See also https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-karmic-firefox-3.5

Can you help with this problem?
