Yes! it stops buffering. That's what I mean. I am not downloading videos.

It happens on both firefox versions.

I did this:

sudo apt-get purge adobe-flashplugin

and then:

sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin

But the videos still stop buffering in the middle. :-S

I thought it was working. However, I came back home tonight and it is doing exactly the same thing. It just stops buffering. I purged adobe-flashplugin now, and installed flashplugin-nonfree. Same problem.

Any thoughts?

Lanza, sorry for the failure, I guess now you'll need to start reading log files.
system administration -> system log
syslog, Xorg.0.log, daemon.log, debug.log

No need to scroll through all this, just reproduce steps until the issue happens, note the time or check logs which recently changed.

Could be a profile issue, rename .mozilla or remove one version of firefox, maybe there are some conflicts.
Of course backup important things like bookmarks.

Further down the road, it could be also a driver or network issue.
Check if above is correct configured.

Benny, I think I am having issues with Flash, not Real.

Sam, Thanks for your reply! it is so weird, I do not know what is going on. I just tried to reproduce it going to CNN and a couple of videos buffered just fine. No idea. I will be watching for it so I can check the logs and will let you guys know. Again, it is now running with the nonfree driver.

I can leave this question open for a while, can I?

Thanks!
David

Yep, I guess it will expire after fifteen days of no action via 'Launchpad Janitor'.

Well, it happened again, but really nothing in the logs! the only thing close to the time it happened on daemon.log was:

Jul 26 13:17:51 ubuntu ntpd[4199]: synchronized to 128.105.39.11, stratum 2

but it that time stamp a couple of minutes before it happened.

I do not think I can remove on version of firefox. I installed 3.5 using the ubuntuzilla script, which installs 3.5 in parallel with 3.0. They say not to remove 3.0, and let it update with the update manager because it could cause issues with gnome.

Now, I do not quite understand where you suggest "Could be a profile issue, rename .mozilla "

Thanks!

It's the hidden folder in /home/username
which includes all your configuration files.

e.g. this will rename the folder, everything will still be in there in case to restore files successive.
##long version
mv /home/username/.mozilla /home/username/.mozilla.old

##short version
in regular case when opening a terminal one is per default in the /home/username environment
this can be veryfied via:
pwd

hence it's enough to type
mv .mozilla mozilla.old

restart firefox and test flash sites.

Lanza, sorry, running out of ideas, except to rm screwed installations.

@benny
Depends:
a) on Ubuntu version
b) repositories enabled

Jaunty:
flashplugin-installer [multiverse]
Intrepid:
flashplugin-nonfree [multiverse]
dito Hardy

Hardy options:
if installed via Synaptic it's in
/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so ##Flash 9

via Adobe the .deb is in
/usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so ##Flash 10

The 64_bit Alpha from Adobe can be extracted and moved e.g. to .mozilla/plugins

I'm having the same issue, started this week.
Not all videos, but most of them stop buffering in the middle.

The issue continues, and is becoming worse.

All sorts of transfers, downloads or uploads, with any application, stop at a certain time. Youtube videos, file downloads/uploads, even apt-get install stops the download in the middle.

Restarting the connection by, for example, moving youtube cursor further on the video, makes the download restart but after a while it stops again.

Softwares like KTorrent that restart the connection manage to work.

The time it takes to stop is random, but is getting more and more often.

Does any one have a clue on what that might be?

Thanks
