Don't load all web-sites.

Asked by Yaroslav Boichuk

Hello everyone. I had one problem with Ubuntu 9.04. Before that, since 8.04 in all version I hadn't it. It's next.

Not every web page open. Example. I can open http://ubuntu.com, facebook.com., but when I try to load youtube.com, it's connecting & connecting during long time, and no results. And above 50% web sites can't load in my laptop. But I had another desktop PC, and there is the same problem. As I said, I didn't have this problem in older version, but in 9.04.... I uninstalled Avahi, but nothing batter. And forgot to tell, when I PING and TRACERT all unworked servers, it works perfect.

Can someone help? Any advice.

P.S. Sorry for my poor english.

Hi :)

Please try working through this guide step by step
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
i go with non-free components but haven't been asked to pay anything yet. Hopefully one day i will be able to go completely OpenSource and really free myself but until then i just want to be able to watch multimedia movies and stuff easily.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Hi

The site you chose as an example has multimedia and i seem to remember needing to re-sort out my multimedia when i upgraded to 9.04. YouTube can also be problematic if you have too many flash-players competing with each other so maybe using Synaptic Package Manager to find all the flash-players available and uninstalling most of them and reinstalling just 1 might help.

Good luck and regards from

I see, it was my mistake. But sites like http://linux.org, http://vkontakte.ru, even http://launchpad.net. And updates can't load from official archive, but from my country (Ukraine) it download updates. But ICQ works.

Are you sure you don't have the Big Brother in Ukraine like it is in China?

Well, then consider to roll back to 8.04 and wait for the next LTS.

With pleasure SAM. But in that version my audioCard don't work=(

>Are you sure you don't have the Big Brother in Ukraine like it is in China?
I don't think so, cause internet work, no every page can be loaded. And at that time they're pinging well.

Hey :)

If you ask about fixing the sound card in a new thread in this forum then maybe someone here could help you get that working. If the sound is working in your current version of Ubuntu then it can probably be fixed in 8.04 by now too :) (at least that's the theory with LTS releases)

Remember to backup all your data before trying to reinstall 8.04 :)

Good luck and regards from

You can trick the installer into not overwriting all of you stuff when you reinstall 8.04. When you get to the Partitioning Section choose "Manual Partitioning" and make sure all the partitions are UNticked in the "Format?" column. It doesn't always work out right the first few times you try this so please backup any data first - but as it's a temporary backup it only needs to be a quick copy of your /home folder onto external drive or Usb stick or something

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Agree.
Audio can be fixed easier than this odd website issue.
What was the issue, did you ask and search about it?
We have a specialist on board:
https://answers.launchpad.net/~markrijckenberg
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=843012

btw. - they've fixed a lot in the new snapshot 8.04.3
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardyReleaseNotes/ChangeSummary/8.04.3
http://releases.ubuntu.com/hardy/

The fourth and last snapshot will be in 2010.
And maybe the next LTS is 10.10 instead of 10.04

Hi :)

Have you been able to try the new Ubuntu 10.04 before it gets officially released?
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/testing/lucid/beta2
Trying it as a LiveCd or as an extra dual/multi-boot would be ideal. Developers and everyone are keen to try to iron out any problems before 10.04 gets officially released so you might find faster & more effective answers to your bug reports which would make 10.04 work better on your system for you

Thanks and regards from
Tom :)

WoooHooo, congrats :)))
It's good to hear you found a way to fix this.

If you want to have a sneak preview of the new Ubuntu 10.04 LTS then downloading from
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/testing/lucid/beta2
and trying it as a LiveCd
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD
should be a safe way of avoiding affecting your current system. Please post bug-reports or ask questions about any problems with it.

Good luck, thanks and regards from
Tom :)
