Can't update Firefox 3.0.11 to 3.5.1

I have Firefox 3.0.11 and my system will not update to 3.5.1

I have automatic update click in my advanced settings for Firefox and therefore cannot manually do it (as far as I know). I also have been waiting (as per my boyfriend's advice) for an update to come through from my Ubun'tu (verison 9.04) but nothing has happened yet. I'm new to Ubuntu and am at a loss as to how I am supposed to update my Firefox. Any help would be appreciated.

Firefox 3.5 is not an upgrade in Jaunty, only in karmic andlater. You can install 3.5 using

sudo apt-get install firefox-3.5

you will now have 2 firefoxes installed as 3.5 will not upgrade the 3.0.11. You can uninstall 3.0.11 if you wish, if you do. I strongly recommend you run:

sudo rm /usr/bin/firefox; ln -s `which firefox-3.5` /usr/bin/firefox

to smooth your life over. You will also need to reinnstall your addons as the ones you have are for 3.0.11 and not 3.5 and you may lose adons as the devs may not have caught up yet.
