Different security settings for sites

Asked by MickJones

In IE (sorry!) I can block scripting & activex for general sites but allow them for trusted sites (e.g. online banking). I can't see any way to do this in Firefox 3 ubuntu. Is there a way to do this that I'm missing (newbie) ?

There are various means of scripting, if you are talking 'javascript' then pablitofuerte suggested the best tool for managing javascripts called the 'noscript' plugin for firefox.

ActiveX however is strictly the domain of IE and MS, and not something you will encounter on any GNU/Linux system including Ubuntu.

Good luck.

Thanks, this answers the javascript half of the question but I'm still confused by the ActiveX half.
Web sites that use ActiveX (I know because I block their use on IE) SEEM to be displaying without loss of functionality in Firefox. Doesn't that mean Firefox is doing something with them ?

No, not at all.

ActiveX is part of the Windows OS. I really do not wish to post links to microsoft's web site to explain this in detail. You should maybe consider a windows forum ( there is a google amount of them).

But you've definitely learned that ActiveX/Javascript/ANY script is NOT essential to viewing a web page. But some functionality may be affected. You just have to try it out and see.
