Can't import passwords and settings from windows drive installation to Ubuntu?

Asked by c_starchaser

I've just installed Ubuntu and Firefox 3.0. My XP disk drive is mounted as Win, and I can browse to Application Data/yada yada/profiles; but in Firefox, when I go to File -> Import, it tells me that no installations can be found that contain bookmarks, settings and passwords; and there's no file browser to show to Firefox where to go get them.

If you symlink the profile folder you have in ~/.mozilla/firefox/<some rubbish here>.default to

/win/Documents\ and\ Settings/<your windows user name>/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/<some rubbish here>.Default\ User

You should now have a single folder with the Linux firefox using the windows one for settings. You may need to mount the windows folder with ntfs-3 as I believe cache is stored there too.

I havent dont this myself but make sure you backup both profiles before you start playing.

Can you help with this problem?
