I am using Firefox with Ubuntu, trying to login in to Scotia Banks web site. I connect to the internet through a Router which manages my PPPOE connection. I am not sure if Ubuntu has a firewall. My configuration (Firefox / XP) using the same internet connection (router) works fine, so I am a little stumped...

Hello, Karl. :-)

Can you tell me what exactly happens when you try to view the page?

I get a timeout message and something about connection has been reset by
server.

Since I was unsure as to how this would be remedied, I tried v8.1 of
Ubuntu and it works fines. Right now I'll stick with that and try V9
again in the future.

Further to this problem. INITIALLY upon installation of version 8.1 I was able to access the secured section of my banking site, but since subsequent patches, it has stopped working.

The exact error message is a follows;
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Connection Interrupted

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading

The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyone have any thoughts?

Karl

Subsequent patches? Could you be a little more specific, please? :-)

Bryan.

The list of patches is quite extensive. The list includes all security
patches that the system detects after a brand new installation.

I am not sure how to list all 301 of them.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

The only modification made to Fixefox were from patches installed via
the update manager. Currently the following patches are waiting to be
installed from the update manager;

firefox - meta package
firefox-3.0
firefox-3.0-branding
firefox-3.0-gnome-support
firefox-gnome-support

OK , we're going to clear the Firefox configuration files (You're just going to lose Bookmarks and cache and all configuration you've done in the Preferences dialog of firefox).

Open nautilus

.... and press Ctrl+H in order to shw hidden files.... Go after to /home/<USER>/.mozilla/firefox/

and delete all files and folders and run firefox again , then try to access to these wesites again !!

Good Luck ;)

I am facing the same problem since I installed Ubuntu 9.04 with FF 3.0.8 on a nvidia machine.

Does not open any secure sites like banking sites, website managment sites etc.
No error message is displayed, however the site keeps on loading and after sometime, I get a timeout message.
I noticed just now, the problem extends to Launchpad site also. I had to post it from another machine

SSL and TLS is enable, proxy is set at No Proxy.

I have tried deleting cert8.db file but it did not help

No firewall is enabled.
The same version works ok on another machine which has a intel chipset.
I have been using Kubuntu 8.0 till date and never had any problem. This problem came with this version of Ubuntu
Extensions installed:

TabMix plus
Ubuntu Firefox modifications
Xmarks
FireFTP

Flash and Java is installed and enabled

Can you help with this problem?
