Open With - Application Selection = Annoyed User

Asked by Boardfoot

Are there any plans to improve the "Open With" portion of Firefox on Ubuntu? For when firefox doesn't recognize the file extension association.

It is really lacking at the moment. I would suggest a "Installed Program" list as opposed to the geeks-only "Browse to file" approach. Or even better... use the OS settings. I'm a bit new to Kubuntu (loving it) and not really savy on linux program executable locations, etc. I quick list of installed programs seems logical and I really find the current system convoluted and unnecessarily difficult.

Note to developers: Keep it simple... the rest of us dummies need it that way.

This probably isn't the best place for this request but I feel your pain as well.
I just download the file and use Nautilus for executing file extensions like mp3s.
Right now Firefox even asks me what to do when I tell it to "open containing folder".

I'm pretty sure an older version of FIrefox use to do exacly what you said. It may be a glitch that it isn't coming up at the moment as I'm sure it worked in 8.04.

Under Firefox Preferences and then Applications you can define the default behavior.

Most of the Options need Optimizing cause by default most Open With options dont work ...

Can you help with this problem?
