Problem with 'selling an item' on ebay.

Asked by Sandra

Firstly on log in/registration page it asked me to enable cookies. Don't know how to do that. I went in to Tools - no icon for Cookies but clicked on Clear Private Data and a box came up where Cookies were listed with a tick box. The box was headed Clear Private Data. Below said clear following items now and there were a list of items with boxes next to them. 4 boxes were already ticked which were Browsing History, Saved Form and Search History,Cache and Authenticated sessions. I did try clicking on Cookies but there was no where to click 'save'. I clicked 'x' to exit and then went back in to see if Cookies was 'ticked' and it wasn't.

Once this is remedied, the main problem lies with not being able to list items on ebay. I have emailed them and they have replied. I have cut and pasted the relevant parts of the reply.

Try different browsers and ensure your firewall is not interfering or blocking passage through high security pages. Other members in your situation have found that the problem they're having is
the result of their firewall or anti-virus software. This may be the case for you, as well. Because there are so many different kinds of software available, we can't provide specific support for each of them.
Therefore, I recommend you consult the help files and documentation for your firewall, or contact the firewall manufacturer for additional information.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THIS?

In addition, some members have found they have two firewalls in place.
For example, Windows XP Service Pack 2 has a built-in firewall that may be operating in addition to another firewall you have installed. Often having two firewalls operating simultaneously can cause problems with certain eBay functions, such as installing eBay-specific software. Please consult the help files and documentation for your firewall, or contact the firewall manufacturer for additional information.

IF I CLICK 'HELP'...WHAT DO I ASK?!

1. What browser (and browser version) are you using (e.g. Internet
Explorer 5.5, etc) ?
I don't know this, can you determine through this email or how do I find out please?

1a. If you use IE6, please give the exact Version no, you will find this
by opening a new browser and going to "Help" and "About Internet
Explorer."

2. Which ISP (internet service provider) and which offer from that ISP
(if relevant)?
I don't know this, can you determine through this email or how do I find out please?

2a. If you are with AOL, are you registered on the eBay/AOL co-branded
site?
Don't know if on co-branded site. Assume I must be because if I type a question about an item, it also appears in my AOL in box.

3. What kind of connection (e.g. modem, ISDN, Broadband, etc.)?
I have a modem connection and am on Broadband thro' Talk Talk.

4. Which operating system (e.g. Win 98, Mac, etc.)
I don't know this, can you determine through this email or how do I find out please?

5. Are you using any firewall or anti-virus software, and if so, which?
I don't know this, can you determine through this email or how do I find out please?

6. What is the error message which you receive?
7. On which pages do you receive this (e.g. general sign-in, My eBay,
Account status, etc.)
8. Does the feature on the ebay.com site return the same result?
9. What is your user ID?
10. What were you doing step-by-step before you received the error?

Answers to Q's 6 - 10. I click on sell an item. It throws me to enter password. It will not accept password. I have tried changing my password to no avail. However, am able to re-list by ticking box next to item and clicking re-list at bottom of page. I am not able to re-list singularly. Once list I am not able to amend the listing - it throws me to enter password - which (as above) won't accept).

I do feel this is an Ebay problem, but then as you can tell, I'm no computer geek!!

Thank you.

Sandra

Sandra, you'll need to enable java scripting besides to allow cookies from ebay.
firefox menu -> edit -> preferences -> content
enable options: java scripting and java

Please consider security and privacy issues.
You may enable java scripting and cookies only for websites you trust.
You may install addons e.g. noscript and cookieLite where the handling is easy.
