How to install Breakpad?

Asked by sokolov

I'm using firefox 3.0.8 with Ubuntu 8.10. At a certain website, the browser freezes. It's repeatable. The debug-department would need the information usually collected by Breakpad - however, the Firefox version used by Ubuntu comes without Breakpad.

How can I install the Breakpad-extension?

TNX.

Firefox 3, Thunderbird 3 and SeaMonkey 2 have a new, open source crash reporting system commonly called "Breakpad", which replaces the older, proprietary Quality Feedback Agent (aka "Talkback") of previous Mozilla applications. "Breakpad" incorporates the Breakpad crash reporting tool developed by Google engineers along with the Socorro web server for processing Breakpad crash report data, using a new user interface called the Mozilla Crash Reporter.

Would mind to give us the url of the website that made your browser freeze? I'm very curious about it.

Cheers...

Thank you, but the Ubuntu-8.10-Version of Firefox 3 does NOT include Breakpad. That's why I want to install it. How can this be done?

The URL wouldn't help you, since the page in question is behin a login. You'd need a password, and, sorry, I can't provide one.

According to this:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/246843

Crash report is disable when building firefox. You will see when you download and open this file:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/f/firefox-3.0/firefox-3.0_3.0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu3.diff.gz

When I try to look the addons from mozilla, I found this:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11217
But, it is experimental.

I've tried with this addon. This addon requires Breakpad to be in installed in the first place. So it's of no help here.

I don't understand why they don't want Ubuntu users to automatically report their Firefox crashes.

You should read the url I gave to you:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/246843

How about download it from http://www.mozilla.org
then compile it by yourself?
