cannot use browser back/forward arrows & other issues

Asked by noahsmommy

my computer has recently been having some issues.. as of about 1 or 2 weeks ago.. I cannot use the browser back or forward arrows to take me to previous pages.. they are shaded gray and will not work whatsoever.. i understand i can use the backspace key, but i am really annoyed that these arrows are not working. Also.. I cannot add any new bookmarks or delete any existing ones. The delete option is shaded gray when i right click to delete one. Sometimes it is not shaded gray and allows me to click Delete, but it does not delete it. When I am on a web page I want to bookmark, I click bookmark this page, and it does nothing. No little box pops up where you edit the bookmark name and stuff.. What is wrong with my firefox 3.0??? any ideas on how to fix these annoying problems? I am really getting angry.

Maybe an update was applied and you did not restart the browser?

Also, an extension could be causing trouble, so check your firefox extensions.

If the aove does not work, you can try to reset the firefox preferences. Type this in a terminal (with firefox closed):

cd ~
mv .mozilla mozilla.bak

This will rename your current preferences folder to mozilla.bak, now start firefox and a clean profile should be created and all your problems solved.

Clean firefox mozilla profile

Close all opened Firefox and try to delete your Firefox user setting open a terminal from applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:
mv .mozilla .mozilla_old
and restart Firefox.

If you have a lot of bookmarks please export them before move your setting directory, then import them again from saved file into Firefox.
Also take note of your installed Firefox extensions, to reinstall them.

if this works then delete the .mozilla_old directory, from terminal, type:
rm -fr .mozilla_old

Then try also to reinstall Firefox... still using terminal type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get --reinstall --purge install firefox

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

hope this helps
