Hi,

Could you try install flash non free. Firstly, turn off firefox, and open terminal, type the command $ sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

Hope that help,
Regards,
Thien Pham

lets try fixing your flash. go to System->administration->synaptic package manager. search for flash. do a complete removal of all flash packages like flash 9, flash 10, gnash, swfdec. now when you launch firefox and type about:plugins in the url it should no longer show anything installed for flash.

In the past, if you had installed flash manually from adobe's website then you'll need to delete the file libflashplayer.so manually. usually in /usr/lib/firefox/plugins you can also find it with the command:

locate libflashplayer.so

now you can simply install flashplugin-nonfree either from the synaptic package manager or from the terminal with the command:

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

let me know if that fixes your flash issue.

Gave it a try but no joy. Now when I click on another link I get a blank page with a large play button in the center .

I looked for /usr/lib/firefox/plugins and this is what the search came up with
/usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

All the plugins at about:plugins are enabled except for one called Default Plugin
    File name: libnullplugin.so
The default plugin handles plugin data for mimetypes and extensions that are not specified and facilitates downloading of new plugins.

Gave it a second try and here is the result
guy@ubuntu-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
[sudo] password for guy:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
flashplugin-nonfree is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Thanks for your time

Dont know if this might help but I went to the adobe web site and when I did a ver. check it told me that ver. 9 is installed.
Looking at synaptic it says ver. 10 is installed
flashplugin-nonfree 10.0.1.2+10.0.0.525ubuntu~hardy1+really9.0.124.Oubuntu2
adobe-flashplugin 10.0.15.3-1hardy2

i dont think your flash is installed properly. remove all the flash installs you have as i suggested above. then open firefox and type about:plugins. if it still shows a line for Shockwave Flash then you missed something. you dont want that to appear at ALL so we can do a fresh install of flash. after you get it removed then you can install the latest flash from a terminal with:

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

after you've installed flash if you look in about:plugins again it will say:

Shockwave Flash

    File name: libflashplayer.so
    Shockwave Flash 10.0 r15

nhasian, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
this totally worked for me!!!
I have been trying for over an hour to get Flash10 to install on my 64-bit Ubuntu 9.04, googling and searching forums, following people's instructions to no avail. It seems the real secret is to FIRST!! DELETE ALL OLD FLASH FILES and UNINSTALL *ALL* FLASH SUBSTITUTES. Then use the very simple command in the terminal : sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
and voilà, Flash! I did close Firefox first, and restarted the computer before reopening Firefox, superstitiously. Don't know if that makes any difference, but after all I'd been through, why not just do it.

Seriously, thank you, this has been a real bright spot. I accidentally erased (almost) all my files a couple nights ago when I installed 9.04 but being able to use Flash 10 makes me feel better. Was using 7.04 Feisty before and Flash was just one of MANY things I couldn't use to their full advantage.
