Firefox and Download Rate

Asked by fooues

When I start downloading something (most of time is a .avi file) via firefox, the download rate gets to 200 kbps and then I can't navigate to internet maybe 'cause it's getting all the bandwidth. The same thing happens when using BitTorrent.

I would like to know if I can set some configuration on Ubuntu, firefox, I don't know to limit or to make the system know that when I am downloading a file it limits the download rate automatically.

So, the main problem is I can't navigate to any page when downloading some shit.

The DownTheMall extension can do this.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/201

Can be used to do all you want :)

In Transmission , goto edit-->preferences--> select network tab , and set upload and download limit .
Fooues , what about the extension ? Did you try it ?

Thnks Hemanth, I will try tonight 'cause I am not at home now.
I saw that option in Transmission and that works but I would not like to change that everytime I open the browser =) .. it could be automatic and change to a low rate when someone requests some page!? I will look for a script or try to do some.

You can permanently set your transmission settings in "$HOME/.transmission/gtk/prefs.ini" .
