How do I uninstall ubuntu

Asked by JohnH on 2008-12-29

I recently installed Ubuntu, together with Windows 98SE on Drive C and I now want to remove it and reinstall it on a new Drive D. I tried to format Drive C via My Computer in Windows but it wouldn't let me, saying that "...it contains some files in use by Windows." I have also tried to uninstall using the original Ubuntu 8.10 CD but there does not appear to be an uninstall facility despite the opening screen saying there is. I should have been content using the CD for longer!

I guess you used WUBI to have Ubuntu within your Windows installed, I guess you can simply have it removed, by either consulting "Add/Remove Software" or by checking you Program Start Menu for a WUBI entry... either way might provide a removal solution - sorry, tried only once and can't remember any better.

Please be aware, by formatting you C: you delete your Windows Installation too. If that is what you desire, then you might just insert your Windows CD and reinstall Windows...

You can install Ubuntu any time on your second hard drive (D:), though I advise you to install it after Windows, as Windows might overwrite the boot sector which gets you into the trouble of getting the linux boot sector back...

Many thanks, Phoenix.

Unfortunately, I installed Ubuntu 8.10 from a CD download (in its own partition) and I was hoping for a solution that would remove Ubuntu without uninstalling Windows.
