can not create a new folder in firefox

I am not able to create a new folder in firefox. the option "new folder" is disabled when I go to "organize bookmarks" and then organize.

FF version used:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121621 Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Firefox/3.0.5

The "new folder" option will be disabled when you have "All Bookmarks" selected in the panel on the left. Try selecting "Bookmarks Menu" and then creating a new folder.

what do you mean by "all bookmarks" on the left. i do not have anything like that.
