When I right-click Firefox does what it wants

Asked by W. Aaron Kalinski

When I right-click Firefox does what it wants. It does not come up with the menu, just opens a new window or tab, bookmarks the page, tries to sent the page by email. I have reinstalled ubuntu and it still does it same thing. Some days are worse that others. I am using ubuntu 8.10 on a dell c600/500. Any ideas??

You know, I think I've seen this too. I thought maybe my mouse was just acting up but hearing you say this suggests maybe it's a bug. However, out of curiosity, what mouse do you use? In my case, I notice it most when right clicking content I want to copy or download. It would be nice to hear from other if they see this too. I'm going to create a bug report from this so lets see what happens.

I also thought it might be my mouse since its a no-name cheap thingy. I disconnected it and used my built-in touchpad and still have the same problem. I do a lot of right-clicking to open in new tabs. I notice it more on sites with lots of graphics, java and complicated coding. Simple sites like this one usually will not give me much problems if any. My Yahoo does it a lot. Then again, some days I just cant do anything. Thanks

I can confirm that this is a bug and that is should be reported as such, if it hasn't already. This has been that way as long as I can remember, but it's never really bothered me, so I haven't done anything about it. :)

I've had this issue for a while myself. I find that if I hold down the right mouse button until the context menu renders, the issue doesn't occur. My theory is that at certain instances, the edge of context menu will render under the cursor. When the mouse button is released a split second later, the context menu is still rendering but can accept mouse up events, which trigger whatever menu item is being rendered. If this is the case, the solution would be to either require an actual click event on the menu items, block events on the context menu until it is fully rendered (or just apply the events after all the other items are rendered), or disable right-clicking on context menus. Try holding down the right mouse button and letting go on a menu item... all mouse up I'm afraid.

If I still see this bug 6 months later, I'll freakin' learn to program FF and fix it my damn self :p

Can you help with this problem?
