No sound with embedded online videos.

Asked by fox

Hey there guys. I recently had trouble getting any sort of sound from the rig, but was helped very quickly by someone who pointed out an answer much more obvious than I expected : D

Though now, I'm having another problem with audio. When I try to watch a video from an embedded online source, there's no sound at all -- like for example, stuff from Youtube or Revver (but this is also applicable for the embedded videos on other independent websites).

I've already tried searching the web for fixes and tried a pretty large number of them, though nothing has worked. I'm hoping that someone here will be able to hand me the magical answer, or at least point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance. =]

You may already tried this but I will suggest this, anyway.

sudo apt-get install libflashsupport

Hope this helps

Thanks for the response, Mr. Smith. I have tried getting that command to work before, but for some reason, it always sends back an error message. It responds to me with the following:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package libflashsupport is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
  flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound
E: Package libflashsupport has no installation candidate

Sorry, I should have mentioned
libflashsupport
is only available for Hardy through universe repository.

For Intrepid it has been replaced with the suggested package
flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound

I have a DELL Inspiron 1501 running Ubuntu 8.10 64 bits. I have no sound at all in my system. I installed wine but can not install the drivers from the DELL web site. (they seem to be only for 32 bit version systems) (XP & Vista). I also tried the above steps but get error messages; even with the second option:

enri@enri-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done

I am new to Ubuntu (since July 4th this year) I am a computer hardware technician and love Ubuntu; however, so far I am still having to keep a copy of Windows (dual boot) to be able to print and now hear sounds. I studied the terminal and APT commands. Any help? I am also going to give a try to install printer drivers with Wine. DELL Photoprinter 720.

Can you help with this problem?
