Hotmail not fully functional anymore

Asked by Joe I.

I have the same problem with hotmail as many others do, seems like u give up a lot going to ubuntu. I installed the little addon switcher , really dont see what it does. Hotmail still doesnt work. I can recieve but not make new. Its easy for others to say use this or that. /when u have windows on everyhng else, you want to keep as much as you can. Can someone walk me thru this switcher so it makes sense to me, as Im not a programmer. thanks

Write down about:config at the place you would write URLs. Then, filter for general.useragent.vendor and change it from Ubuntu to Firefox.

Hope I helped!!

This is something Microsoft is reportedly doing deliberately. Do the following:

- In the address bar, enter about:config
- Click the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button
- In the Filter box, enter 'general.useragent.vendor'
- Double-click the line starting with 'general.useragent.vendor'
- In the box that appears, clear out whatever's there and enter 'Firefox'
- Click OK
- Close all Firefox windows (yes, all of them) and try to access Hotmail again

I did that, nothing changed, I went back, and in the box I had previously changed appeared UBuntu once again. I changed again and went as far as restarting , back to same thing. I also gave feedback to hotmail client as well. This email has worked for as long as Ive used UBUNTU, about 1yr. no problems.

What addon switcher did you install? Can you also please try the steps I gave again, but this time before restarting visit this page and copy the blue line under "Your browser version": http://helpdesk.unb.ca/helpDesk/utils/yourip.cgi

After that, save the line somewhere and restart Firefox, then go back to that page again and copy the same line. Please post here with both lines, as well as exactly what addon switcher you installed.

When you edit the general.useragent.vendor line to Firefox, and then restart it doesn't work, right?
But, at the moment of editing, without restarting, does hotmail work?

If this is the case you'll need to go to the file /etc/firefox-3.0/pref.js (or something similar) and there copy the line of general.useragent.vendor (already edited and while firefox is not on).

web email.

They made some changes to hotmail recently, and they broke something in their javascript (ajax) code, probably intentionally.

I recommend using google mail.

Thankyou for the responses, since I had a yahoo acct as well, it was easiest to transfer all email to that. I did follow thru with the help hints but no success. I like to have a webmail address when i travel, my home address doesnt always work. thanks again.
