Continuous browser updates / restarts

Asked by edkoala

Firefox displays "Your browser has been updated and needs to be restarted" on startup and on every page visited. Restarting the app does nothing, the update message returns exactly as before. How can I get rid of this message / solve the problem?? (Many restarts) Disabling my add-ons has no effect either.

1.backup existing configuration

tar -cvf firefox.tar .mozilla

2. In Synaptic "search for firefox"
Remove firefox3 packages

3. Restart Synaptic
4. Search for "firefox-2" and install those packages.
5. Remove the black icon in the taskbar for the old Firefox. Then drag and drop the shortcut in Application > Internet > Firefox 2 to the taskbar for the new quick launch to Firefox 2.

I have just had the same issue.

I do not consider the above answer a solution.

This is 4 months later and its still an issue!

Anyway I've just installed 8.10 on my laptop and when updates were run and after I installed some addon's the problem manifested itself. After finding this issue I though I would try disabling each addon one by one first to see if it was one of them causing the issue.
As luck would have it the first addon I tried to disable sorted the problem out.

After disabling "Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.6" and restarting, it no longer needed to restart.

Hope this help's you edkoala.

I do not know what the "Ubuntu Firefox Modifications" do and effect disabling it has.

Cheers
