cannot update firefox 3 beta 5

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

i've tried from the Help menu,it doesn't work.i've tried updating Ubuntu,can't do that either,aldo it's newly installed.the interface says:your system is up-to-date.the package information was last updated one hour ago.
I'm new to ubuntu so I didn't try manual update!thx!7

Which release of Ubuntu a re you using...

Open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

lsb_release -sd

copy and paste result here.

To update to the latest version of ff

download the source from firefox website and save it on to your desktop

Then in Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop
tar xvzf firefox-3.0.3.tar.gz
cd firefox
./firefox

Make sure Firefox is closed when you do this.

thank you all,for your replies!i've reinstalled ubuntu,everything is OK now.I think the problem was with the Compiz app,actually there was some kind of conflict between the Compiz and the Update manager,but I am not sure!cheers from Bosnia!7
